This will be a day filled with presentations, read-aloud sessions, craft activities, and opportunities to meet those who write and illustrate books especially for young readers. Authors and illustrators who will be reading from their books include Vivian VanDeVelde, Rhonda Fischer, Mary Jane and Herm Auch, Marlene Young, Julie Cummins, David Smith, Ron Mazzarella, Nancy Lane, Wendy Dunham, and Elaine Verstraete.
Stage Struck Puppets (Deb Poplasky) and friends will show how to use puppets to tell stories.
There will be photo opportunities with storybook characters. New books can be purchased and signed by individual authors and illustrators. Explore! The Bookstore, a bookstore located in Clifton Springs will also have lots of additional books to sell.
During the festival food will be available for purchase at a truck in the campus parking lot. Festival admission and parking are free thanks to many generous sponsors: the Canandaigua Rotary Club, Canandaigua National Bank, Thompson Health, Higgins & Henderson Financial Services, and Wegmans. The festival could not happen without them or without many faithful volunteers.
This event is coordinated by the Community Reading Partnership which was formed as an outgrowth of a literacy improvement initiative in the Canandaigua City School District in 1998.
