We were out rabbit hunting and stopped to watch for squirrels for 15 minutes or so. Along comes this coyote. I had my camera with me so I decided to try and call it in to get some photos. I made some squirrel noises and the coyote turned looked right at me and walked right up within 10 yards of me. Great to watch.

While driving near Geneva recently, this coyote ran across the road in front of my car. Luckily I had a camera to capture the encounter.

Here is a picture of Taughannock Falls near Ithaca. It is a beautiful site no matter what time of year, but especially in the winter. It's one of my very favorite places in the Finger Lakes.

I noticed a whitetail deer mother and fawn behind my parent's house, near the back shed. I went outside to take some photos and the fawn kept running up to me, within four feet of where I was standing!

This picture was taken shortly after the hatching of nine ducklings in a flower pot at the end of our dock on Seneca Lake. The mother had chosen to build her nest in the pot and had sat on the eggs for about 28 days.

We had one of the most beautiful fall seasons we've had in a long time. This photo, taken along the Erie Canal near Palmyra sums it up!

This was taken at the Thirsty Owl vineyard in Ovid a couple of weeks ago. The Finger lakes wineries are fantastic! If you haven't had a chance to visit them yet, make a date to stop by!

Last year when I was walking along the old Erie Canal path in Palmyra, I spotted a male wood duck. I managed to get a shot of him, though from a distance. Every other time I've gone back to the trail, I haven't seen the fellow, until today! He was swimming around nibbling at the algae when something scared him from under the water.
I think he swam over a submerged branch or something, causing the reaction you can see here!

I think the duck got goosed!

Peace,
Mike Mulberry

I took this photo from the north end of Honeoye Lake on September 5th. A weekend before it was filled with pirates and vendors and kids and it was lively. This picture depicts how it usually looks - quiet and peaceful and gorgeous. The beach is now closed and the seagulls were even obeying the rules and were enjoying the view too.

Mark,

I continue to click away, having lots of fun with my digital. Sending you one I took on January 9, the day of the big wind storm. I always liked this one because in addition to the crashing waves etc., it also has the leftover base from the Roseland Sky Ride (I believe that is what they called it). This was at about 8:45 that morning. Not the kind of tranquil lake shots we usually see.

Take care
Mike Sargent

I was driving over to the canal for some fall shots and decided to take the back roads. I came across the open house for the Spirit Wind Farm.

I thought I'd check out the Alpacas. It amazed me how
they were similar, socially, to people. There was a
greeter, some teen agers rough housing around, some
babies, and a couple shy guys. As I took one last
shot, the Alpaca who greeted me seemed to smile and
say, "Y'all come back now, 'Ya hear!"

Peace,
Mike Mulberry

Mark,

This picture is digital proof that the rainbow does, indeed, end on Keuka Lake. It was taken from our cottage on Crosby Point late last September during one of the few rainy weekend days of 2006.

We are so thankful that we did not succumb to the weather forecast and stay home. Even rainy days on the Finger Lakes are spectacular.

I saved this picture as the “Wallpaper” on my computer. It’s what gets my wife and me through the not-so-pleasant winters in NYS - until the next unbelievable summer on Keuka Lake.

Thanks,
Ernie Walker

Happy Labor Day! I went to the New York State Festival of Balloons in Dansville, yesterday. It was my first time there. If you get a chance to go next year, take it! It was really awesome. I like the bottom photo because you can really see the flames shooting up from the burner in the basket.

The top photo is of my friend Anne Lambert who was kind enough to loan me her kayak and enjoy the day with her.

The bottom photo is me in a kayak at the south end of Canandaigua Lake in the shallows.

We also climbed to the top of Bristol Mountain that day.

Got a new macro lens and went to the Erie Canal path
between Newark and Palmyra today to try it out.
Here's a couple test shots.

It's a telephoto macro, (150mm), which means I can be 20 feet from a butterfly and get a "close up" shot without disturbing him!

This will be especially nice next spring when I'm
shooting Audrey Ferris' crocus with all the bees!

Peace,
Mike Mulberry

As I enjoy your magazine so much, I really wanted to share with you and perhaps your readers this photo I took of my home in Corning on Memorial Day.

Thank you,

Hi Mark. I took this photo in a plane as we were flying out of Ithaca - it is of Cayuga Lake. It took my breath away. I am so enjoying the magazine and sent it as gifts for my in-laws.

Take care,

I took this photo of a Great Herron with a Pike at our home on
Seneca Lake. The bird had just captured the fish and was on our neighbor's dock trying to decide what to do with it. After some time, the bird re-entered the water with the fish, dunked it into the water and then successfully swallowed the fish.

This is an image captured late on December 14 (between 11pm - midnight) over the skies of Greece from the Lake Ontario State Parkway. The Aurora Borealis started out as a pale green hue visible above a breaking cloud cover in the northwest. It ultimately transformed itself into the classic looking pillars of light in the night sky. There's nothing like seeing such an amazing show (at no charge) in person!

I took this photo on Canandaigua Lake this past summer. When I saw a group of neighborhood boys take off with their homemade raft, I just had to run home and get my camera. I thought the Tom Sawyer/motor boat contrast was especially interesting.

Here is a photograph I took of Keuka Lake. My wife and son and I were on a boat when a bad storm came through. As the storm lifted, I shot this photo looking south toward Depot Park in Hammondsport.
