Newsbits Canandaigua Lake Music Festival to run from August 17 to 28 The 2011 season of the Canandaigua Lake Music Festival celebrates the vibrant impact of folk music and storytelling traditions on classical music, with performances by an exciting roster of musical stars. From the Czech folk flavor of Dvorak’s String Sextet to the Spanish rhythms and Oriental flavors in Ravel’s Quartet in F, the folk spirit continues with the pioneering multi-genre cellist Mike Block (who has toured extensively with the Appalachia Waltz Trio and the Silk Road Project, and who has been acclaimed by Yo-Yo Ma as “the ideal musician of the 21st century”). Hailed as a “virtuoso soloist and a rhythm monster” (Darol Anger), Block’s fiery performances combine Appalachian fiddling to bluegrass to classical styles for an unprecedented concert experience.
