Finger Lakes Boating Museum
In this hands- on course, under the direction of boat builder Pat Smith, students will learn to build a classic cedar and canvas canoe using techniques developed in the 1800’s. This includes constructing the canoe over a form using steam bent planks, installing a hand carved carrying yoke, seats, decks and thwarts, canvassing and painting and varnishing the inside and adding brass stem bands. All tools and materials are provided.
The course runs for three consecutive weekends: June 2-4, 9-11 and 16-18 (Friday from 5 PM – 9 PM and all day Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:AM.) It will be held at the Finger Lakes Boating Museum, 8231 Pleasant Valley Road, Hammondsport, NY.

Course fees are $500 for nonmembers, $400 for museum members and $300 for each accompanying family member.
At the conclusion of this course the canoe will be raffled to any interested students. The raffle winner will be required to pay an additional $1,000 materials fee.
