Landscape For Life
5 SATURDAYS: MARCH 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, 2013; 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Every home landscape has the potential to clean air and water, reduce flooding, cool your community, combat climate change and alleviate the pressures being placed on Earth’s ecosystems. Yet conventional gardening practices too often work against nature, damaging the environment’s ability to provide these natural benefits that support the health and well-being of you, your family, and your community. The 5-part Landscape For Life program, developed by the U.S. Botanical Garden and the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas at Austin, shows you how to work with nature in your garden, no matter where you live, whether you garden on a city or suburban lot, a 20–acre farm, or the common area of your condominium. It’s possible to create a great–looking sustainable landscape that’s healthier for you, your family, your pets, and the environment --- and that saves you time and money! Participants in this program will receive a Certificate in Sustainable Home Landscape Design from Cornell Plantations. Pre-registration is required and you must attend all 5 sessions in order to receive the certificate. Instructor: Joshua Whitney, Gardener Fee: $120 ($100 members and Cornell students) Info: For more information about the Landscape for Life Program and the Sustainable Sites Initiative, please visit landscapeforlife.org. Cortland Repertory Theatre presents "The 1940's Radio Hour"
Wed. July 31 - 7:30; Thurs. Aug 1 - 7:30; Fri. Aug 2 - 2:00 & 7:30; Sat. Aug 3 - 7:30; Tues. Aug 6 - 2:00 & 7:30; Wed. Aug 7 - 2:00 & 7:30; Thurs. Aug. 8 - 7:30; Fri. Aug 9 - 7:30; Sat. Aug 10 - 7:30. Direct from the Hotel Astor's Algonquin Room in NYC, join The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade as they present a “live” radio broadcast on December 21, 1942. The spirit of that bygone era comes alive with a behind-the-scenes look at the fun and drama of producing a live radio show. Not all runs smoothly, of course… the trumpet player is off to join the army, the delivery boy is desperate to sing on the show, and the harassed producer has to cope with an intoxicated lead singer. Featuring such great songs as "Strike Up the Band", "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and “I’ll Be Seeing You” this sweet, charming and funny show is one from and for the memory book! Box Office located at 24 Port Watson Street, Cortland. Performances held at the Little York Pavilion, 3799 Little York Lake Road, Preble. Visit website for more details.
